I decided to refinish an old student desk for my first furniture project. What I plan to do is just sand the surface and repaint it with a different color (light blue). I have a couple of quesitons,
1. Do I have to use the primer?
2. What type/brand of paint (light blue) is good enough for this project.
Any input is welcomd!

1. Do I have to use the primer?
That would depend on what is on there now, if anything
If you plan to sand off all the finish that's on there, for sure yes
You'll need a bare wood primer

You would also need a primer [solvent based] if there are any issues regarding the new paint bonding to the old finish.
