I want to build about a 4-foot wide wooden "sidewalk" about 6-8 inches off the ground on two sides of my garage that would extend from my garage about 4 feet wide to some flower beds.
What should I do to create my stringer system to attach the top deck boards for the "sidewalk".
Thanks.

How long will this sidewalk be, and what sort of terrain will you be transversing? Is if fairly level? Do you want a slight arch to it?

The deck will be 24 feet down one side of the garage and wrap around 24 feet to the back. The terrain is flat, with exception of some concrete I must have to bust out from overpour of floor that went outside of pole building and is quite high and uneven along the back of the garage.
Thanks for your help.

The sidewalk should be supported just like a deck, with either 4x4 or 6x6 posts. Since it is not 36" off the ground, I suppose you won't be installing handrails. Pour footings or use dekblocks every 8' on either side of the sidewalk and in the middle for the support verticals, attach 2x6's with carriage bolts to the verticals. You will need 4 stringers/joists to give 5/4 lumber adequate support without flexing. Now, if you opt for 2x6 flooring, then you could get by with 3 stringers/joists.
