I have an old fan not manufactured or distributed in the US and the remote broke (I really broke it trying to fix it!) so I want to just wire it directly to the wall switch with a Lutron 3-speed control. There are 7 wires (purple white green yellow black red brown) with the white black and red a little larger than the rest.
Do I have to disassemble the fan at the top to eliminate the remote transmitter wiring and can I then make it operable with the wall control?
Thanks for any help!

Not knowing the brand, it will be difficult for us to tell you exactly how to do this surgery. But, generically, you will have to remove the remote control receiver and hardwire the fan. Unless this fan has sentimental value, you can buy a new one, and a good one for less than the trouble you are going to experience in removing the remote receiver.

Thanks, Larry. I'm off to buy a new fan.
