I'm wondering what the best primer would be for this situation - I'm repainting the exterior of an old house that was painted just a few years ago. The paint was obviously poor quality, I'm not sure if it was latex or oil. There's a lot of bubbling and peeling.
I was thinking of using an oil primer, such as Zinsser's CoverStain, then top coating with a latex exterior.
Is there a better primer anyone can recommend?
Will there be any problelms with top coating with the latex?

I prefer to use an exterior oil base wood primer for raw wood. On some older homes that have inadequate insulation or vapour barrier it is often benificial to use a latex primer and finish as it helps to allow the wood to breathe.

Since I mostly use SWP products, I use the both the latex and oil primer in the A-100 line, usually top coat with super paint.
