I have a whirpool automatic gas dryer, model LG7681XW. The dryer gets hot and drys fine but longer works in automatic mode. The time mode works fine.

Could it be anything other than the Electronic Dryness Sensor?

Thank you

In automatic mode, does the timer advance at all? If not, it might be a resistor that would be in the control panel where the timer and start switch and other setting switches are.

In automatic mode, the timer does not advance at all but it does in "time" mode.

Contact an appliance service store and ask if they sell parts over the counter. Then tell them what yours does and say you have heard it could be a resistor and see if they will bring up your model on a computer disc and find out if it has one. These resisters are rated at like 3300 ohms...something like that. If you find one in the control panel (they are a bar-like shape that are like 1/2 x 3 inches long), and disconnect the two wires and test it with an ohm meter.

In your control panel you may have a piece of paper with your entire wiring schematic on it and you can read the schematic and see if you can find the resistor on the schematic, also.

I appreciate you advice.

Do you know what to do and will try to check this out? Do not just go out and buy the part. Test the resistance per the wiring schematics ohm rating on it. IF it checks out pretty close, then you could possilby have a bad timer. But just don't start replacing parts. Otherwise I'd feel guilty.

I have a neighbor who is an electrician, he'll help me check the resistor. I won't just start buy parts at random.

Thx again
