My new ceiling fan has 1-black, 1-white, 1-blue, and 1-green ground wire. There are 4 wires coming out of the junction box in the ceiling. 2-black and 2-white. One of the white wires is tied in with one of the black wires. Instructions for ceiling fan say to connect like colors, the blue wire being connected with the black. I would like to be able to control the fan, at least the lights, with the light switch in room. I am somewhat handy, but when it comes to such things as electricity I don't like to "see what happens." Anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

oldmud

The remaining black and white wire left in the box (excluding the ones tied together) will be the ones you attach your black and white wires to from the fan. This gives you switch control to the fan. If you attach the blue wire to the same black wire, you will control both the fan and light from the switch. If you want independent control of the light and fan, you can attach the black wire from the fan to the black/white combination, which is hot all the time. You will only have pull chain control of the fan at this point. Leaving the blue wire attached to the single black wire will give switch control to the light only.
Just for info, the white wire tied to the black, as well as the independent black wire is actually a switch loop, and both wires are to be considered black.
