Hi
Redoing a kitchen floor which had vinyl stick on tiles over plywood (1/2"). I've removed all the tiles.(A clothes iron works wonders). The floor was so sticky it took the shoe off my foot a few times. At the same time the wall/ceiling were being sanded, so now the floor is no longer sticky, but I'm worried that installing ceramic tiles will not bond properly to the plywood.

Am I worried for nothing or will a layer of plywood be needed?

TIA
Josh

If 1/2" is all you have then you will need another layer of 3/4" BC grade exterior glue plywood, available at HD for about $35/board. Screw it down at 6" intervals into the bottom sheet, leave 1/8" gap in seams and fill with a bead of cheap latex caulk, keep 1/4" off wood framing for wall studs, turn it so it lies perpendicular to the first layer and make sure that there is no seam on seam. Use the best modified thinset you can get your hands on.

What i would do is remove that 1/2 plywood and put in durock instead, than lay your tiles on it ..
Plywood can be too bouncing fro tiles+grout...It will probably cracks in few monts ;)

Thanks
After installing another layer of plywood, I should be able to use Mapei Kera 121 - Or is the more expensive KeraBond/Keralastic system necessary ?

If you are installing over plywood the kerabond/keralastic is the way to go.:)
