I am designing a new 4000 sqft two story home in Southern California. I am thinking about a seperate heating system for each floor.
A concern I have is the Kitchen has no ceiling, so it's open all the way up to the vaulted second story ceiling. With most of the first story having an open design from room to room, I'm worried I will have uneven heating.
Questions:
Is there any favored location, such as, one unit on the first floor, the other on the second. Or both on the second, or ?
I need to draw the furnace enclosures on the plan. Considering moderate temp climate, 2000 sqft each system, what size should I draw the furnace enclosures? I am going to have to squeeze them in somewhere so the smaller the better.
Can one AC unit be hooked to both heating system or will I need two?

Any time I'm dealing with a multi-story house, I suggest HVAC equipment for each floor. You should contact a local installer with a good reputation & have him/her design your system.
