Painting - Top coating with clear oil-base over latex?

My wife just completed a fantastic-looking faux finish on our kitchen bar table. The faux finish was done with latex paints. Naturally we want to protect it as much as possible from damage, so we want to top-coat it. Can we use an oil-base top coat (like a clear lacquer) over the latex finish, or do we have to go with a water-based product (like minwax's Polycrylic)? we know we can't use polyurethane (because of the ambering); what are our options for a durable top coat surface?

I would use a waterbase product like Benjamin Moores Stays Clear. Polycrylic has a blue cast when it dries. And lacquer uses strong solvents and it ambers.
