My wife and i bought a house this past november, we're now starting to do a few things around the house. We have someone coming in to re-tile our front entrance. The old tile is still intact, it's just white and extremely tough to constantly keep clean. We've tried breaking some of the tiles in the closet to see how easy it may be to remove the old tile and it seems like its going to be a disaster. Right how we've been using a big hammer in attempt to smash the tile, is there an easier way to do this??? If not it seems we'll be doing this until we're 90. The tiles just won't break! Any help would be appreaciated.
Thanks very much!

Try renting a demolition hammer with a 2" spade on the end of it. The tile will come up pretty quick.

If they were that nice and strong you could have just tiled over them. Not ideal but mostly fine on a solid existing surface and it sounds pretty solid.
