:wall: HELP!!
I bought this house 2 years ago- it's a 1956 build. The loft upstairs was done over to cover the exposed beams- it was fit with a drop ceiling that included 2 ceiling lights (part of the ceiling package?). The loft is god-awful hot in the summer and freezing in the winter, so I need to install ceiling fans to get the air moving up there.
Here's the problem
When I went to remove the old ceiling lights I found that there was no typical wiring. Essentially, there are 2 wires coming in freestyle to the box connected to the bulb recepticle. I'm serious when I say that it looks like knob and tube wiring- though the house isn't that old. It is incased in what looks like insulation tubing. I am not sure if there are wires encased- I was afraid to start cutting away at it all and completely lose the only light in the loft. Everything is kind of just floating above the ceiling tiles. I can see where I can mount the fan to the ceiling, but can't see how to make any connections. I've read some of the posts here, but can't make heads or tails of what to do in this particular situation.
Now I wonder if I am I going to have to have an electrician come out and rewire my attic! I am desperate for any help anyone can give. I can send pictures too.
Thanks!!!
