View Full Version : Pump noise, vibration type
Well is about 55 feet down, pump is in the well. When the pump use to turn on you could barely hear it vibrate. Last night the wife turned on the water sprinkling system for the grass. It ran ok for about 20 minutes and then it started to make a louder noise, like a vibration and you can hear it though out the whole house. The water pressure meter, which I admit I never really watched it that close, as the pressure got to 50IBS pressure the needle does not remain steady, flicking around 3 to 5 ibs then jumps upto 60Ibs and shuts off. The pump does not come on right away as you use water, turns on at about 40Ibs. The pipes in the house do not vibrate. At a loss, any ideals?

Although it's hard to say without being there, I would guess that you may have a problem with the pump itself. Since the pressure appears to be surging, you could have some damaged impellers or a problem where the pump end and motor couple together.
Have a persom familiar with wells and pumps check it out for you, probably the sooner, the better.

Its like when I had the pump inside the house, it was loud and then we got a new well, 4inch and pump in well, just low level hum and you had to listen for it, well now back to pump inside house noise. Well , point , pump etc is 16 years old. I believe its at about 50 feet down. Am going to call the guy who put in the well etc.
The pressure meter only shakes at about 50, at 40 its ok as it climbs.
Another question, the two inch pipe coming into the house from the well is steel, its from the old well and they reused it to bring water into the house. At that time it was about 25% plugged, I thought it should have been new pipe or plastic pipe. Should this be replaced or can it be like roto rooted out to give better flow into the house. I would think after 16 years it should be plugged some more?
Thanks
Joe

Good idea to call the man that put it in. I still think you have a pump problem.
I would think that the piping should be replaced. I'm sure it's alot more plugged now, and cleaning it is liable to create leaks.
