I planted honeysuckles last year, and they were gorgeous by August. I cut them back in the winter because of the brown vines. Was that a poor choice? This year, they are not growing as fast as last year!

When your plant has finished blooming, you can prune for shape. (Only lightly prune plants until they are well established after around two years.) Hall's Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) can become invasive if it is not pruned back hard in winter to prevent the build-up of woody growth. Avoid planting this variety near shrubs or small trees as they can be overtaken by the honeysuckle. Prune coral honeysuckle back in the winter to increase flowering.
