I had the coil replaced in the upstairs unit (located in the atic) about 5 years ago for $950. Recently it quit cooling and the technician said it was 4 lbs low on freon and that the coil had a leak. The original company has gone out of business, but this technician said his company would work the coil warranty and install a new unit for $700 labor. My wife told me that the last time it took the installer about 3 hours to install the new coil. That is a very hefty labor rate. Does this sound reasonable to you? By the way, the unit is a carrier, but the replacement coil was not a carrier. It apparently should have been.
thanks,
Brad

I'm surprised there is any warranty left on the 5 year old coil.
That price is not out of line and would be considered low in many markets. It takes a considerable amount of time and effort to do a good install.
