I have an octagonal light fixture that mounts with two 6-32 screws thru the threaded holes on a standard lighting crossbar. My ceiling octagon box is oriented with the mounting holes equal distance from the wall.

The problem is that the threaded holes in the crossbar are on opposite sides of the large oblong holes thru which the 10-32 screws hold the crossbar to the ceiling box. That makes it impossible to set the light fixture so that two sides of the octagonal fixture are parallel to the walls.

I checked two other crossbars I have and they all have the same configuration. Is there a crossbar available that has more 6-32 holes? What am I missing here? I hate to drill it because the tolerances are tight.

You need a two part rotating crossbar.
