hey all.
i'm about to hang up roughly 175 sheets of rock in this apartment and i'm wondering how i can estimate how many 5 gallon buckets of mud i'll need.
also, anybody know why the price of sheet rock has more than doubled in the last couple years? same thing seems to have happened to rebar.
thanks for the tips.

Generally I figure 1 bucket per 10 sheets, Unless there are alot of corner beads.
So roughly 18 buckets.
Of course that number can go up if you drop alot on the floor or use way more than necessary when finishing.
Prices on everything have gone up, several factors are gas prices and Hurricaine Katrina.

i just found out there's finishing mud and basic mud. do you recomend finishing with the finishing mud? or does it really matter. texture is going to be sprayed on the walls afterwards.

Tape with all purpose. Do your fill coats with lightweight.

Supply and demand mostly. However, prices will not be increasing for a while as the housing market has slowed down. Also the materials used to manufacture drywall (especially the paper) has increased significantly.
