Most "authorities" on tomatoes say they need an inch a week. I don't get much rain and what I thought was an inch, made my plants look like they were dying. A lot depends on the soil and if it makes the water run off or lets it soak in. I have never seen tomatoes drowned, but I have overwatered in Florida and seen the fruits blow up and crack badly.

If the soil they're planted in drains well, they should be fine.
