I installed a ceiling fan with light kit and remote. I ran 14/2 wire from the switch( which controls a nearby outlet). I am unsure how to make the connections at the switch to send power to the fan/light. It doesn't matter to me if the wall switch controls the fan/light or not b/c I installed a duplex box with a wireless remote control in the box. There is a black, white and ground entering to switch box from the outlet. The way I had it at first worked but the fan control operated the fan, light and whatever light I had plugged into the switched outlet ( it was dim though). I don't even really need the switched outlet. I'll stop rambling now. Any help would be appreciated

You have a couple of issues. If you only had a black, a white and the bare attached to the old switch you cannot extend from here to power your fan. The white is supplying power to the switch, the black is the switched hot. You do not have the required neutral connection. You also cannot just grab a close by neutral and extend this to the fan location.

Secondly, fan are not hung from 2 gang boxes. Fans need to hang from a box listed for fan support unless other means are provided that provide independant support.

The fan is attached to a fan box. When I tested the wire at the switch the black was hot and the white had no power. GUess my first post was not clear. It is a 2 gang box on the wall, with the wall switch and the remote for the fan.

Tell me where I am wrong:

Right now you have six wires in the switchbox:
2 Black
2 White
2 Ground
---------
6 Total

The switch is on a loop from the outlet. In the OUTLET box you see these connections:
> means a screw connection
+ means a wirenut
White Feed > silver terminal on outlet
Black Feed + Black to switch
White from switch > Brass terminal on outlet
Ground + Ground + pigtail to green terminal on outlet

To eliminate the switch:

1. At the OUTLET box make these connections:
Black + Black + pigtail to brass terminal on outlet
White + White + pigtail to silver terminal on outlet
Ground stays the same.

2. At the SWITCH box:
Remove the switch & get a blank plate.
Black + Black
White + White
Ground + Ground

Alternate #2, to switch all power to the fan:
Black > Switch terminal
Black > Switch terminal
White + White
Ground + Ground + pigtail to green screw on switch

If you have metal boxes your grounds must also be bonded to the boxes.

**Edit: Reversed switch loop colors in outlet box to match OP description.

Thank you for the info. It was very thorough. I do have 6 wires in th switch box. I have not actually looked in the Outlet. I will have to do that this weekend. If I choose alternate #2, do I have to re wire the outlet?

Sorry I wasn't clear on that. Yes, you need to follow the #1 steps. What I meant by 'alternate' was that you substitute those instructions for the #2 listed above them. So you do "1." and then your choice of "2."

Let me be completely clear that I am making assumptions on all of this, so when you open up and it does not match, that may have implications. For example often there is more than one switched receptacle in the room, controlled by one switch. Re-post as necessary.

Also since you're using 14 AWG check the breaker to make sure it's a 15A circuit and not 20A.
