Instead of removing my tile in my shower(not enough time) and risk runing the drywall(having to hardie or durock anyway), it seems like I can get the thinnest hardie board available, use some tapcon screws to affix it over the exising tile, then retile?

There are no cracks in my existing tile to speak of.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

There will be plenty after the tapcons go in.

Scrap the cement board idea.
Just use a modified thinset after you clean the old tiles so they look like they just came out of the box. All old soaps, body oils, etc must be removed for the thinset to properly adhere to the old tile.
