Just had a home warranty service guy come check my outside unit...problem was that sometimes the outside unit would not come on when inside fan kicked on. Intermittent problem, but still a problem. Anyway, guy comes out and checks contactor and other parts with meter. He then bypasses a part (delay is what he said it was) and plugs yellow and brown wires from that part directly to the contactor. Unit now comes on every time, but I wonder if it will cause problems bypassing parts. You'd think they were put there for a reason. It's a RUUD achiever 10 w/ scroll compressor.

If you live in an area that occasionally has power interuptions then yes it will cause a problem.
What the time delay does is keeps the unit from coming back on immidietly after shutting off and causing damage to it or tripping and blowing fuses.
I would insist that they replace it. On the other hand you can buy a new stat that will also have this function built in to it.
Home warranty companies are the hardest to get satisfaction from.

The time delay is an inexpensive ($5 to $6) part designed to protect the compressor in the event of short duration power interruptions. By all means replace it!

Thanks guys, I think the honeywell stat inside has one built in, but not sure. I'll call the warranty place or sears and just get the part and replace it.

If it is a Didgital T-Stat then it has a delay built in.

Yes, its a digital Honeywell stat. Still, I called and they are returning with a "senior tech". I figure it needs to be right, since
I may sell the house in a year and don't want extra service charges to come back and bite me after an inspection.
