Toilets, Sinks, Showers, Tubs and Disposals - Toilet Closet Flange

I installed a new toilet back in November. It was my first, and I learned a lot in the process. I noticed that the closet flange was not a complete ring. I installed the toilet using the outer lip of the closet flange to hold the screws. Last week the toilet began leaking, thankfully a drop at a time into the kitchen right over the trash.

This past weekend I removed the toilet, kept the old wax around the bottom by pressing it up against the new ring. I did not do anything about the closet flange. I think the old closet flange just fell apart through 60 years of use. Short term, it sits fine and straight, it doesn’t rock or move or leak. I think I need to permanently address the closet flange situation. How can I correct this problem to make the toilet truly stable?

They make a repair flange called Super Ring or Super Flange. Probably get one at a Home Center or hardware. You place it on top of the old flange and screw it down through the holes in the new and old flange. Good luck.
