Do granite kitchen countertops get installed over a plywood base, if so how thick is the plywood base or is it determined by the thickness of the granite? Also how do you secure the dishwasher under the countertop? Thanks.

If you are talking slab granite, it comes in 3/4" thickness, which would need a plywood substrate, and 1 & 1/4" which dont need anything, unless you are also talking about an overhang of 12" or more.

Thank you for the reply but one more question, how do you secure the dishwasher under the countertop? Thanks

I installed a small strip of 5/4"X4" maple stained to match my cabinets. The piece spans the DW opening. You should do this before the countertops are installed. I also installed a 2X4 on edge at the rear of the DW space spanning between the adjacent cabinets. Both pieces will also help support the granite.
