When i purchased my home two years ago, the airconditioning worked fine. i decided to replace the old thermostat with a digital one and the unit stoppped working. i know nothing about a/c but i am pretty handy. the wiring on the thermostat seems to be as instructed and the heat works just fine, but the compressor will not stay on. the fan blows but all i hear are a series of clicks from the unit outside. Can anyone help?

DId you check you breakers. If the unit out side click when you turn the T-Stat on then it sounds like there is no power to the unit.

sometimes a bad contactor will make a series of clicks as it pulls in releases. Might want to investigate a bit closer are we handy?

the breakers seam fine.
what contactor are you talking about. is this something on the unit itself or the termostat. is there a way to bypass the t-stat to see if i can kick the unit on?
