I have a dining room table and chairs that are approx. 12 years old. They are constructed with a medium oak finish and I would like to take it to a darker oak colour.

Can you please tell me the steps to take from preparing the pieces to changing the colour and what tools/accessories I will need to complete the refinishing and giving it a tough, glossy finish.

Any assistance professionals can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums

Short of completetly stripping the old the finish and restaining it darker, you might sand lightly and apply 1-2 coats of a tinted poly to darken it up. You would then need to top it off with a coat of clear poly to protect the color.
