We just bought a 1904 2 story home that needs a bit of work. Upstairs there is a full bath, but very small. There are also 4 large bedrooms upstairs. We are going to knock out the right wall of the bathroom into that bedroom and make one big bathroom. Where the current bathroom is, we'd like to make it a walk-in shower.

Can anyone suggest books or websites that deal with this sort of thing? And for anyone that has done something even close to this, are are so problems I should watch out for? I had planned on making the whole shower tile with a glass door OR figuring out a way to make it doorless. Kind of a vague question/request but would appreciate any input.

It would be in your best interest to find the direction of the floor joists for one thing. Since you are moving fixtures, you are also moving the piping (supply and drainage). In most older (and even newer houses) the drain piping is run straight up from the first floor to catch any upstairs plumbing without running a seperate line. This means you will be cutting the old lines and re-routing them under the floors. Cutting the floor joists. Just something to think about. Good luck.
Contact your local plumbing code office for line sizing and how the pipes need to be run.
