How long does polyurathane last - in an opened can? Is this something I should take to the hazardous waste disposal after a year or so, or does it last much longer? I mean is still is liquid, but I'm not sure if it is still good to use. Thank you for your recommendation.

If it is a year old and not significantly older, has been well sealed, has been in an environment where it was not subjected to serious temperature extremes etc. then it's likely ok.I would test it on something first to make sure it will dry and turn out the way you'd like it to.

Well I don't know how old some of this is. I have 4 quarts of open polyurathane. It sounds like it is time to take it to hazardous waste pickup.

Polyurathane and oil base paints in general will last indefinetetly provided they are well sealed and not subjected to extreme heat.
When you open the can if it stirs well, no clumps or jelled portions it is still good to use.
