I have 4 x 4 white ceramic for a kitchen backsplash. The tile has very small tabs for spacing. I think they will be too close to each other that way to grout. We have a 3 tile by 3 tile mural for the middle too. What is the normal spacing? I have some 1/8" spacers left from the floor and layed them out but they look too wide. The 1/8" looks good for the space between the flat formica counter top and tile that gets caulked. We are going to use white grout. It just seems to me that all the photos I see look wider than the built in spacing. Maybe after grouting it would look wider. Help!
Thanks

Why don't you grab some cheap tiles and do a mock-up with diferent spacing so you can actually see what the finished appearance will be.

I have 4" square tiles on my backsplash. I used the built in spacers and it looks fine IMO. The grout lines are approx 1/16" Remember that the edges of the tile are rounded allowwing a little more grout than just the crack you see when placed together dry.

Also remember to use unsanded grout, since the lines are so small. Believe me, you want as small a grout line as possible in a kitchen. Less space to collect crud.

don't worry, the built in spacers are plenty for a nice thin unsanded grout joint. If you get into spacing them wider it will look funny and be harder to get uniform. Any tile you see in a showerstall etc. that is how they were done.

Thanks All. Guess I will stick with the built in spacers.
