View Full Version : sometimes flickering lights

My two outside front porch lights had halogen bulbs. In order to save on energy costs, I replaced them with energy-star non-halogens that put out more illumination and use less power.

When I installed them, even in the OFF position they flicker. If I replace one of the new bulbs with one of the old halogens, there is no problem. As I was changing out the bulbs to do that, I saw that the remaining bulb was flickering even while the other can was empty. It stopped when I screwed in the Halogen.

What's going on?

Thanks

Is there a photo eye on this circuit? It is running minimal current though the bulb for its own operation. You would not notice this on an incandescent bulb.

Thanks for replying-

There's no photo eye but the circuit has a timer wired into it.

Would that do it?

Right now I have 1 halogen and 1 non-halogen to keep it from flickering.

The timer could do it.
If it doesn't have a neutral wire try using one that requires a neutral wire.
