How high should the toilet flange sit in relation to the finished floor (tiled)? Thanks

Most that I have set are either even with or just above the floor. If you hold a straight edge across the bottom of the toilet, you will see that there is room for the flange to be on top the floor. Good luck.

Right now I have subfloor and 5/8 underlay down and the top of the flange is 1.5" from underlay....I am yet to install the 1/2" backer and 1/4" tile and mortar....my calculations say the toliet flange will be 1/2" above the finished tile...Is this too much????? Do I need 3/4" backer??? Should I go ahead and cut the pvc pipe to bring down while its easy access?

The closet flange has to sit on a solid surface and be screwed down. This prevents movement which will eventually break the pipe or flange. Measure twice and then cut the pipe while it is easily accessable.
