Probably your operating stat is shot. My guess is that the dryer is never reaching or sustaining a temp high enough in the operating rande, and the automatic dry cycle is not advancing because the sensing for the temperature is not getting hot enough. The dryer 'thinks' it is not getting the clothes dry, so it doesn't advance.

Go outside by the vent hood and put a thermometer up under the flap and see what the high and low temp reads are with the gas on/gas off cycling. I am not sure what your exact temps should be, but you should be getting a high temp around 140 at least and a low temp when the stat shuts off (they all do shut off you know, during the cycle) of maybe the upper 120's. A steady ocscillation should be occuring between the high and low temp. I am bound to be off some on my figures. But tell us what you get.
