We have a Moen single-handle faucet in the kitchen sink that has a slight but persistent drip. Is this fixable by a not-too-handy (me) homeowner? What part should I ask for at my helpful hardware store? Special tools or anything else? Thanks all.

Yes, it is doable. You will need to change out the cartridge. Turn the water off under the sink, remove the handle, usually by an allen wrench, and carefully with a pair of channel locks with electricians tape on the jaws, remove the nut or collar from the top. Once this is off you can pull out the cartridge, take it to your local store and tell them "want one!!"
Installation is reverse. You may want to lubricate the o rings with vaseline to make the cartridge slip in easier.
