Hi Guys,
I've picked up about 700 sq ft of oak T&G. It was originally laid in 1911 and doesn't look to have been been sanded all that often.

When I salvaged it, I damaged the end T&G on (maybe) a third of the boards. My question is:

Can I get away with cutting the ends flat and butt jointing them? What does the "end matching" actually get me?

Cheers
Peter Kerr

Does anyone want to have a stab at this? I'm sorry if its an obvious question but I've googled a lot and I can't seem to find an answer. :wall:

One other question:
I'll be cutting these down using a 12" chop saw. Any recommendations for the blade? I want to avoid "tear out" etc

Cheers
Peter

Peter KerrIn 1911 the oak flooring had T&G on the ends??? For a very long time ends were not matched. THe end matching can somewhat help keep the ends flush, but if you install properly and sand properly, I think you won't have much of an issue. It's reclaimed, not brand new factory manufactured flooring. There are still products in Europe that don't even have side matching. Go for it!
