I've got a fairly large stain of red nail polish on a new pair of olive green cotton pants.

I've gone to a number of cleaning sites. On this forum, the advice is to use non-acetone remover. On the site that is linked to this one (as well as others), it says to use acetone.

Is one better than the other? I started out with non-acetone polish remover, and after an hour or so, nothing happened, so I switched to acetone polish remover. It seems like it might be working a little, but after about 3 hours, it's still not gone. :wall:

At this point, is it a lost cause? If I took it to a dry cleaner (it's cotton), would they be able to do something I can't? This happened the first time I wore these pants and I really like them, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you so much for any advice.

I would say that if you tried both and after that much work it is still in there. It may be a lost cause. Dry cleaning may help, but may also set the stain. Were the pants dried after the accident happened?

Give the dry cleaners a call prior to going and let them know what you've tried so far to remove it.

Acetone is a harsh chemical and that's why it was suggested to try a non-acetone remover first, so as not to damage you or your clothing, if possible. I would keep trying with the remover as long as you see progress. Once you don't, I think what's left will be permanent.
