I have a Maytag Neptune front loader that is 2 years old. After completing a wash cycle of a load of jeans, smoke came out of the door when I opened it. I noticed a burning smell before opening the door. Nothing felt hot on the outside of the machine except the LED time display. I did a complete visual inspection, after unplugging it, and found no other symptoms. After it cooled overnight, I ran several more loads without incident and it seems to be working fine. Any ideas what could have been burning? I first thought it smelled like a belt, but I am not aware of any belts, or reasons for a relatively new machine to burn a belt.

I would say it would have been the door lock mechanism

Turned out to be the motor control board fried. New motor and control board, but it looks like it needs a new control panel board also.....
