I recently purchased a house and took up the dog stained particle board that was nailed overtop 1/2" plywood subfloor. I am going to install oak hardwood soon and was wondering what I should use to replace the particle board that I pulled up. I am thinking of 1/2" 4 layer plywood or 1/2" osb but I dont know which is better or maybe 3/8 but which is better osb or ply?

Either one will work. ½" minimum.

I think plywood would do! It's a good choice. Who is your flooring company? I think this one is a nice resource for floors. They have a nice design and some great tips on installing hardwood floors.
