I have a 2 yr old Sears model 580 5470 1400 dehumidifier in the basement. We've had a very, very dry year and it has not been running for 6 or 8 months, I suppose. It is getting power, the electronics are lit up, and it will even run a couple of minutes when I remove the bucket, lay it on its back, reinstall the bucket, and set it to "on". After a minute or two, though, it quits again. Coils are clear. I also cleaned the filter. No other problems before now. Also, no odd noises, smells, or vibrations.

Thanks for any input

It could be a # of things! Id take it in to sears! Did you turn the dehumidifier on its Side?

I only have turned it on its back. Would it help or hurt to turn it on its side?

The dehumidifier should be kept in an up right position at all times. If not the oil will run out of the compressor and cause serious damage.

I have the same model, and it's doing the same thing. Have you figured anything out?? It's driving me crazy! It turns on, then turns off.

Nope. I bought a new one, just not from Sears.

We had a Sears dehumidifier that ran like a trooper for about 2 1/2 years then it had enough and died. We never buy extended warranties and Sears told me that a service call was $90.00.

So, we looked at new dehumidifiers and chose LG. Interestingly enough, the LG looks like a nicer Sears. Turns out they make the Sears unit. However, the LG comes with a 5 year warranty.

We don't buy ANYTHING at Sears...
