I'm wondering why my water softner seems to work just fine during the day and in the evening, but when I take a shower in the early morning the water is completely hard. I don't know a lot about water softners so the problem could be something minor. Any ideas or solutions?:wall:

From your description, there is little we can say as to why you are having this kind of problem with any degree of certainty. It is probably true you have a single tank with brine drum or a cabinet model.
What kind of softener do you have? Timer or demand unit? Make/model?
What is the diameter (height) of the tank? 8", 9"', 10" or bigger?
Can you give us some measurement of water conditions? Iron, hardness, TDS, manganese, etc.?
How many people are using water? How often does it regenerate?
Chances are you have a system that is undersized, not properly set up, or has resins that are failing.
Let us know some of these details and maybe we can advise.

Firstly check to see if the correct time is showing on the valve timer and whether it is set up to wash each day of the week.
If it is a timer valve and the time is not correct, it may just be deciding to backwash just as you are having a shower at the same time every morning. Seems the most obvious.
If it is volumetric or if it is a timer but set to wash every week, give us some details of the valve and water source.
