When the dishwasher is going through its draining cycle, the water is overflowing a lot into the sink area through the 'air gap'. If you lift off the cap on the air gap, the water flows up about 3 ft. Obviously a lot of pressure there. All the water is draining out of the dishwasher so where is the problem? I would appreciate any suggestions I can get.

lamsangel, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
I would say the hose from the air-gap to the drain is partially clogged. The pump on the DW expells a lot of water fast so any small blockage will cause a back-up. Disconnect the hose to the drain and check it. Good luck.

Also if you have recently put in a new disposer you may have forgot to take out the knockout plug....
