I'm going to replace the treads on my stairs to match the new floors. Currently, the stair are carpeted and the treads are 2x10s. I will be replacing them with the standard one inch treads. I assume I'll need to make up the 1/2" nominal difference to keep all the new risers equal. I'm thinking of making up this difference with 1/2 plywood or OSB. Should I use an adhesive to help hold these together?

The risers will be painted and the treeads finished.

Anyone have any experience with this type of replacement?
