Need opinions and advise on texturing a small room by hand. Was thinking of applying a thin coat of mud over entire wall then rolling a soft paint roller over it,let it dry, then knock off the points.Or would a moist sponge dabbed over it give a more "orange-peelish" look. There's maybe four sheets of total wall area.Appreciate any advise.

Skip the skim coat and apply drywall compound mixed to a consistency slightly thicker than gel paint, then apply with a randomly patterned sponge roller and before it drys, knock it down.

Welcome to the forums Hatchetman

There are problably more ways to apply texture than any 10 men could dream up. Orange peel is normally sprayed on using either thinned downed joint compound or the dry bag mixture mixed with water.

Depending on your rolling method [and choice of cover] you can get an orange peel effect by just rolling on thin j/c Orange peel is often duplicated for repairs with a sponge but I wouldn't want to do a whole wall that way.

Unless you are wanting a certain texture it really doesn't matter how you apply or texture the walls as long as they are all consistent.
