Hi All,

I've installed Pergo Presto in a few rooms in my house about 6 months ago. Holding up great.

There is one area in the kitchen though that has started to squeak. It's opposite (sort of) the refrigerator, which was installed on top of the laminate.

The floor was leveled by a pro, is not locked in anywhere, used the correct underlayment, allowed to acclimate, etc. I've just started noticing this over the past month or so. Funny thing is that it doesn't happen in the morning; more appropriately, it doesn't happen until the area in front of the fridge gets some traffic on it.

So my plan is to take up the floor in that area, check and see maybe a screw has come loose in the sub-floor. This squeak is not along the entrie joist; just in one spot. Maybe the floor is heaving slightly because of the weight of the fridge?

Thinking of using some roofing felt in that one area, ever so slightly, and seeing what happens.

Advice?

Thanks all !

one thing i've noticed after laying an oak floor in my kitchen is that the refridgerator puts out more heat than i thought.

the heat is pushed out the bottom of the unit, causing the floor to swell slightly compared to the rest of the floor.

that could cause your squeaks as well.

just an observations i'd thought i'd share.

good luck.

What makes you think it isn't locked in anywhere??

Have you pulled a molding to see?

Laminate will grow, more then you think.

Because it was installed with more than the recommended gap on all sides. The floor is not heaving, it’s a squeak from the subfloor that I can see from the crawlspace. I decided I’m going to install a cleat or shim. That should probably do it.
