Is there a way to fill a hole which is about 1/2 in wide, 1 in long,,and 1/2in deep in oak hardwood flooring and have the repair look good?

Remove damaged board and replace with one from an inconspicuous area such as in a closet. Replace borrowed board with a piece of new flooring.

Sorry.If it was my house I would do the floor cutting repair,but it is a friend who is selling their house.I had seen at another house where a floor finisher filled in nail holes which didn't look too bad,but I don't know what they used.That's kind of what I was looking for.

i'm thinking that this hole is too big for just filler. i think i remember seeing larger holes filled by cutting a slightly smaller shape out of the same wood, making sure the grain is running the same way, and gluing it in. then you'd just have the thin rectangular joint lines to fill.
