Hello:

Have the fairly typical Sears Kenmore electric dryer which is close to ten years old by now. Model is 110.68089 11

One of the drum support rollers has gone bad, and thought I would replace it myself, as the roller part is relatively cheap.

Question: Even though there's probably enough room for me to reach the roller which is at the rear of the unit thru the kick-plate door from the front, I was wondering what happens when I remove the roller ?

e.g., Will the drum fall down ?

Should I block up the drum with some wood prior to removing this roller ?

How is this kind of repair normally handled; any caveats or "gotchas" to be aware of ?

Thanks,
B.

No need to be at back of dryer. You can get everything apart from the front. Pull out filter from top of dryer & remove the
screw on each side of filter housing. Pry up on each front corner to lift up top of dryer. Remove screw from each inside corner on top holding the front panel. Remove wires from door switch & lift up on front panel & remove. Under the drum on the right side you can remove the belt from the tensioner & motor. Make yourself a drawing of how the belt is routed so you don't get confused when re-installing belt. Now you can lift up & remove the drum from the front & have easy access to replace the rollers. Always replace both & clean & lube the roller shaft before installing. While you have the dryer apart, inspect belt tensioner & belt. If parts look worse for wear, might as well replace since both are fairly inexpensive & you have it all apart.
Make sure power is off before doing any repairs. Good luck. Dave
