Bought this house a year ago. Has a 40' x 10' deck. Noticed many nail heads had poped up. decided to pull out nails and replace with screws as nails were a triping hazzard. After pulling up most of the deck, found some leger boards and joist were rotted out, I will replace these. Some of the joist have the top 1/8 to 3/8 in sections rotted, this wont interfere with replacing the decking. But I would like to know if there is anything I can apply or do to retard this rot? As I mentioned this is a large deck! and replacing all these joist is not an option! Thanks for any and all advice!

If you find a lot of dry rot, replacing things may be the ONLY option.
