I'm still in the planning stage for a brick patio, a part of which will be covered by a 10'x12' pergola.
My wife and I have been pricing out the materials. We absolutely HATE the look of treated wood, especially for something like a patio pergola, but the cost of cedar (at least here in central Ohio) is just insane.
We are thinking about scaling down the size of the pergola in two ways. First, reducing the overall size to 8' x 10'. Second, changing the proposed 6"x6" posts to 4"x4" and the beams & rafters from 2"x8" to 2"x6". This may allow us to go with the cedar.
Two Questions:
1. Any thoughts on the above dimensions that we're considering?
2. Besides the two obvious differences -the look and the cost- are their any other factors to consider between TP and cedar? Any negatives to using cedar?
Thanks for all the help from this forum, it's great!
