I will never store anything near my furnace!
A 50-pound bag of Kitty Litter fell over next to my furnace. My furnace is oil force warm air and a "highboy"
For less than 10 seconds, the furnace blower sucked the Kitty Litter from the floor and into the furnace. I immediately stopped the furnace.
I opened the blower compartment and vacuumed all the Kitty Litter I could find.
Did this damage my furnace? I had the heat on when it happened.
Did the Kitty Litter contaminate the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, or something else? Where did it go? Did the heat melt the Kitty Litter? Do I need to call someone to replace anything?
Thanks in advance

I have a couple of dumb questions. Was the blower door not on the furnace? If not, why? If it was, how did the kitty litter get into the blower compartment?

Yes. The blower door was on the furnace.
This is how the Kitty Litter got inside.
There are small, circular holes on the bottom plate and left-side plate of the blower compartment. I don't know what the holes are for.
Plus, there's a 1/8 inch gap where the bottom plate and side plate meet.
Should I seal the holes and gaps with HVAC tape?

Thank you for your answer to my what may have seemed to some as a "smart a$$ed" question.
To answer your question: Yes those holes should be sealed. Any return air should be pulled thru the ducts & filter. The holes may have been put there by some well intentioned but misinformed person to help improve air flow. If you need more return air flow, add another duct or enlarge the existing ones.
