Do those power attic fans with thermostats do any good or do they just suck more electricity and make alot of noise than they claim. House just doesn't seem to cool good even with a 20 degree drop in air temp from intake and vents.

They can reduce the temperature in the attic by quite a bit IF there is enough air intake via soffet or gable end vents. You can't exhaust more than you can take in.

I agree with Grady, but I prefer good natural ventilation if possible. Plenty of ridge and under-soffet vents are a good way to go. No maintenance, no power use, no noise.:)
