I just Finished a Small Deck in my Front , Outside, with Pressure Treated Lumber. Turned out Nice. My Neighbor walks over and said NOT TO Stain or Waterseal it because it must be exposed to the elements for a Year before I do so. Should I wait?...and why? ..

Welcome to the forums. It really depends on where you live. In Arizona, you could probably treat it the same afternoon. Not really, but in dryer climates a shorter period is needed, but usually, here in the South, we wait from 3 to 6 months to stain the wood. We have rainy springs, and hot summers, so the time of year has alot to do with it. A year seems like a long time, though.

Larry, Thanks.....I thought it was a Little too long. I live in the Northeast ~ Heavy, Heavy, Snowbelt and cold. 151 inches of snow year before last ...so we get hit pretty hard. I can see perhaps letting it go until Fall, but I though a Year wait was an overkill. Just wanted to know why. THANKS Again .. Mick

Wood will split when it drys out to fast. Id only wait a few weeks tell you put on a clear sealer. After a few months more you can put down a solid or whatever.
