Hi, Need some assistance on an old alarm unit recently been re-installed by a new owner. None of the codes are available. I am at a loss as to how to reset the master/installer code to be able to re-program the unit. Any advice on how to reset the DSC1565 back to factory would be appreciated.
I tried shorting the unit out as per the manual but this didn't seem to work.

The 1565 is a varient on the 1555.
From the manual:
On occasion, it may be necessary to default the main control
panel or one of the connected modules: the LINKS2X50 Radio
interface, the PC5132 wireless receiver, the PC5400 Printer
module.
To default the main control panel (hardware), perform the following:
1. Remove AC and battery from the panel.
2. Remove all wires from the Zone 1 and PGM1 terminals.
3. With a piece of wire short the Zone 1 terminal to the PGM1
terminal.
4. Apply AC power to the main panel.
27
5. When Zone Light 1 is lit on the keypad the default is complete.
6. Remove AC power from the control
7. Reconnect all original wiring and power up the control.
NOTE:AC power must be used to power the panel. The panel
will not default if only the battery is used.
Now, the problem may well be that the installer lockout function was set on this system. In which case, short of a lucky guess at the installer code, you are stuck. Power down the panel, and listen carefully as you reapply ac power. If you hear about 10 rapid clicks from the telco relay on the main board, then it's locked out.

Thanks. I did try that earlier but it doesn't seem to behave that way when the terminals are shorted. I have even removed the wires attached to common for Zone 1. The telco modes are not switching so doesn't seem it has installer mode turned on.
Can't seem to get it reset back to defaults (standard installer code of 1565 is not working)
Any ideas?

.. I have managed to get into the installer mode (code of 1555). However these instructions are way to cryptic to understand how to program each zone and what assignment (eg delay/instant)
Anyone have quick instructions for dummys that are more usable then the cryptic installation manual.. :(

Yes 1555 or 5555 is the correct default code for this model (which is a minor variant on the base model). The fact that 1555 worked means that you have an older model.
First, to help you out, we need to know what your zones are supposed to be. The zone configurations need to match what the zone is used for.
The Power 632/PC1555 and it's variants are a pretty common topic on this forum. Skim the previous posts (also those for the Power 832/PC5010) to get a feel for what you are dealing with.
There is no definitive step by step because every install is different. DSC panels are not easy. I know many professionals that get stuck on them. Tell us what, specifically, you are getting stuck on, and we can help you out.

Thanks for the reply. What I am planning is
Zone 1 - Passive Sensor Downstairs
Zone 2 - Passive Sensor Upstairs
Zone 3-5 - Not Used
Zone 6 - Front Door
Zone 1 & 2 are Instant Alarm when the system is in alarm. Zone 6 is on a time delay of 30 seconds (30 seconds being default).
I am having trouble programing the zones for their usage (cant seem to get the syntax correct) and also programming the user code to arm/disarm..

Ok, that's pretty straight forward.
First step: Go to program * 8 [installer code]
Go to zone 1-8 definitions: Enter 001
enter the zone definitions for your configuration, in this case: 05 05 00 00 00 01 00 00
It should automatically be ready to go to another programming section at this point.
Go to Master code: Enter 007
Enter the 4-digit code you want for the master code.
If those are all of the changes you are making, press # until you go back to run mode.
What was probably throwing you is the fact that you need to enter the leading 0 on those zone settings.
