The frost took it's toll on my deck and I am in the process of having it repaired. The handyman is also going to replace the wood lattice with white plastic latice. He has suggested that I paint the pressure treated lumber which covers the floor of the deck either white or gray. I have concerns since I live in Maine and quite a bit of snow accumulates. If I did paint, would shoveling ruin the paint finish? Thanks.

Our paint guru's will chime in shortly, but personal opinion: paint on a deck, yuk. A good penetrating product, to me, would give better results, especially in harsher climates.

I second chandler. Unless you manage to paint it with something that wears like iron and doens't fade, chip, or wear I think you'll regret it.

IMO it is always best to use a transparent stain when decks are new. When they get old and will no longer look good with transparent stain I switch over to a solid color stain.
Solid stain covers like paint but since it is thinnner it seldom peels like paint will.
Depending on conditions most decks will require restaining [or atleast maintence staining] every few years.

Thanks so very much for the advice. I have decided not to paint.
